Mr. Apel leads DAI Asset Management’s senior management team and is responsible for the firm’s investment operations and strategy. He oversees the investment and underwriting teams, which are responsible for pipeline development, investment screening, due diligence, and transaction execution, and is a member of the firm’s Investment Committee.
Mr. Apel has more than 30 years of investment, banking, and international consulting experience, working across both developed and emerging markets. Early in his career, Mr. Apel worked at the U.S. branch of Swiss Bank Corporation focusing on European banks, after which he worked with both Price Waterhouse and Coopers & Lybrand, where he was instrumental in the privatization of state-owned enterprises across Asia and Latin America. Mr. Apel joined IDB Invest in 1997, and for over 25 years facilitated impact lending to financial institutions in Latin America and the Caribbean. Since leaving IDB Invest in 2022, Mr. Apel has been consulting for the North American Development Bank and the World Bank.
Mr. Apel received an M.A. in international affairs from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and a B.A. in English literature from Carleton College.
